Why We Are Here.

Myth: African American Fathers do not takecare of their children:

Fact, a firm MAJORITY of us are working to support, provide, and raise our OWN families.

Second, a firm MAJORITY of us African American Dads are helping to ‘mentor’ or ‘raise’ children from from single parent homes.

Third, a firm MAJORITY of us are working in and around many of our local communities to help steer many of our young men AND young women away from the streets, and into responsible and upright living.

This is why the “F.B.I.” (Fathers Being Involved) exist today.

The History the FBI Site

The mission is to give a voice to a population that has gone unheard for too long, and to build a community of dads that want to dispel the negative stereotypes.  The F.B.I’s practical approach is reaching out to the fathers of young children has been designed to not overwhelm dad, but to encourage him support the children and their school.

As the old African proverb says "It takes a Village to raise a child".

Others

If you walk in the front doors of Narvie J. Harris elementary schools between 3pm and 6pm you will see many fathers picking up their children. Even though we are under represented in the PTA and or as Room Parents we fathers still want to contribute. The  “F.B.I..”  (Fathers Being Involved) is a way for Dads to contribute to their child’s school even though they may not feel welcome in traditional schools organizations.
